About

I am a contemporary painter working in acrylic, creating vibrant, semi-abstract works that explore the interplay of colour, form, and emotion. My practice is centred on producing pieces that invite quiet reflection, works that evolve with the viewer over time, revealing new details and connections with each encounter.

Based in Canterbury, New Zealand, my life is shaped by a dual commitment to medicine and art. I spend much of my week in clinical practice, while the remainder is devoted to family life and painting. This balance deeply informs my work, grounding it in both observation and intuition.

I was born and raised on the Chatham Islands, where an expansive and ever-changing landscape fostered an early sensitivity to colour, texture, and atmosphere. Creativity has been a constant thread throughout my life. I began painting at 14, encouraged by my aunty, artist Delwyn Lanauze, whose generosity and belief in my work provided a formative foundation.

At 15, I held my first solo exhibition at Christchurch’s Art Centre, an early milestone that set the course for an ongoing exhibiting practice, including both solo and group shows, as well as commissioned works.

Largely self-taught, my approach is guided by experimentation and an openness to evolution. I am drawn to the expressive potential of colour, its ability to convey mood, memory, and presence beyond language. Each piece is an exploration, layered and intuitive, with the intention of creating a sense of depth that extends beyond the canvas.

My work seeks to resonate on a personal level, to offer a moment of pause, a shift in perspective, or a sense of being transported. I am continually exploring where this process will lead, and how my practice will deepen over time.
